vs. Fresh Flowers
Can you tell the difference?
Probably not! High-end silk flowers are excellent examples of
exquisite
workmanship and often hand made. They are life-like and have realistic colors and
botanical qualities to the petal and stem.
Even brides may find silk flowers to be less expensive as fresh flowers and more
beautiful.
In silk flower making there is a significant
difference in quality. At the lower end, are flowers and
stems of molded plastic. The retail price is inexpensive and may be a dollar or less. At the higher end,
are hand made flowers with wire insert in stems and petals to assist in shaping and
arranging,
realistic looking petal, stems, leaves and buds. Petals may also be hand painted.
The retail price can be $6 to $20 per stem for "botanically correct" flowers
dependent on flower and intricacy of construction and detailing. Latex may be
used for shaping.
